Frequently asked questions about your trip to San Andrés
The questions we’re asked most about the trip, the diving and the island. If yours isn’t here, get in touch.
The trip and the diving
Do I need to be certified to join the diving holiday?
Ideally you’ll have at least your Open Water. If you don’t dive yet or have little experience, tell us in the form and we’ll advise you on the best way to enjoy the trip.
How many people are in each group?
Small ones, so every dive stays relaxed and the group really gets to know each other. We confirm the number of places for each departure with the programme.
Can I join if I’m travelling solo?
Yes. Many of the people who join a group diving holiday come on their own, and it’s one of the best ways to meet other divers.
When are the next departures and how much do they cost?
We’re finalising the dates. Leave us your details and we’ll send you the itinerary, price and dates as soon as they’re ready.
What’s included in the trip?
The package includes accommodation, activities around San Andrés island and your dives. We send you the full breakdown for each departure (number of dives, accommodation, transfers and what isn’t included) along with the itinerary. Ask for it in the form and we’ll write to you personally.
Are there direct flights from the UK to San Andrés?
No. The usual route is a direct flight from London to Bogotá (10 and a half to 11 hours) and a connection from there to San Andrés (a little over 2 hours). We’ll help you fit your flights around the itinerary.
When is the best time for diving in San Andrés?
You can dive all year round: the water is always warm. January to April tends to be drier; October and November are the wettest months.
Is San Andrés safe?
San Andrés and Providencia are among the most relaxed destinations in Colombia and welcome visitors from all over the world. We use the same common sense as on any trip, and on ours everything is arranged in advance.
Can I come on my own?
Of course. Small groups are ideal for solo travellers, which makes this a great single diving holiday: you share the trip with other divers from day one.
What do I need for a try dive?
To feel comfortable in the water and be reasonably fit. Before diving you’ll fill in a medical questionnaire; if you have any health concerns, check with your GP before the trip.
How many days does the diving course take?
It depends on the dive centre and on whether you do the theory online before you travel. We’ll give you the details with the itinerary.
Can I do a try dive if I’m travelling with someone who already dives?
Yes. It’s a great way for you both to enjoy the sea: while one of you dives, the other gets started.
San Andrés island
How many days do you need to see San Andrés?
Four or five days are enough to see the essentials of San Andrés. If you want to add Providencia or dive on several days, a week or more is ideal.
How much does the San Andrés tourist card cost?
In 2026 it costs 153,000 Colombian pesos per person (children under 7 don’t pay). It’s paid before the domestic flight and the price is updated every year.
Can I pay by card?
Always carry cash in Colombian pesos: many entrance fees, taxis and small places only take cash, and few cards are accepted in Providencia.
What plugs are used?
Type A and B, at 110 volts, as in the United States. Coming from the UK, you’ll need a travel adapter for your plugs.
Can you picture yourself beneath these waters?
